Cm Fm Bb Eb G# Fm G7 Cm
Out in the country Far from all the soot and noise of the city There's a village green
Cm Fm Bb Eb G# Fm G7 Cm
It's been a long time Since I last set eyes on the church with the steeple Down by the village green
Cm Fm Bb Eb G# Fm G7 Cm
Ah la la la la 'Twas there I met a girl call Daisy And kissed her by the old oak tree
Cm Fm Bb Eb G# Fm G7 Cm
Ah la la la la Although I loved my Daisy, I sought fame And so I left the village green

CHORUS:
Fm Fm/E Fm/Eb Fm/D
I miss the village green, And all the simple people
Cm Cm/B Cm/Bb Cm/A
I miss the village green, The church, the clock, the steeple
D G
I miss the morning dew, fresh air and Sunday school

And now all the houses are rare antiquities American tourists flock to see the village green
Ah la la la la They snap their photographs and say "Gol' darn it Isn't it a pretty scene?"
Ah la la la la And Daisy's married Tom the grocer boy And now he owns a grocery ...

CHORUS

And I will return there And I'll see Daisy
And we'll sit and laugh And talk about the village green

Cm Fm Bb Eb G# Fm G7 Cm
La la la la la We will laugh and talk about the village green

(slow down at end)

CHORDS:

NOTE: The one change here is the second line of the chorus. It is a bit
harder to play this way, but concentrate on getting the 5th string changes
correct and you don't necessarily have to finger or play the two top
strings as you are reaching.

On Village Green Preservation Society, I believe that I can make a
correction:

CHORUS:
  C G F C riff 1
Preserving the old ways from being abused
  C G F *E*
Protecting the new ways for me and for you
 F C
What more can we do?

CHORUS:
 D A G D riff 2
Preserving the old ways from being abused
 D A G *F#*
Protecting the new ways for me and for you
 G D
What more can we do?

The chords may not appear in the correct part of the line in my email, but
the order is right. Basically I think it's an 'E' on 'you', or F# following
the key change??

I don't want to die in a nuclear war RIFF 1
I want to sail away to a distant shore and make like an ape man

CHORUS #1:
A E

A E
I'm a King Kong man, I'm a voodoo man, oh I'm an ape man
     D
Cos compared to the sun that sits in the sky
A
Compared to the clouds as they roll by
                                               E A
Compared to the bugs and the spiders and flies I am an ape man

BRIDGE:
A E
In man's evolution he has created the cities and the motor traffic rumble
A E
But give me half a chance and I'd be taking off my clothes and living in the jungle
         D A
Cos the only time that I feel at ease is swinging up and down in a coconut tree
                            E A RIFF 1
Oh what a life of luxury to be like an ape man

CHORUS #2:
I'm an ape, I'm an ape ape man, oh I'm an ape man
I'm a King Kong man, I'm a voodoo man, oh I'm an ape man
I look out my window, but I can't see the sky
The air pollution is a-foggin' up my eyes
I want to get out of this city alive and make like an ape man

                  E (RIFF 2) A RIFF 4 RIFF 1
And we will be so happy in my ape man world

CHORUS #3:
I'm an ape man, I'm an ape ape man, oh I'm an ape man
I'm a King Kong man, I'm a voo-doo man, oh I'm an ape man
I'll be your Tarzan, you'll be my Jane
I'll keep you warm and you'll keep me sane
We'll sit in the trees and eat bananas all day
Just like an ape man RIFF 1

Do It Again

Written by Ray Davies

Opening chord: G7sus??? or D7sus???? (see Hard day's night, possibly)

Note: the intro is played by strumming a D chord, then hammering on your
pinky to suspend the chord, then releasing the top string to add a high E
note. Repeat this freely.

D
Standing in the middle of nowhere,
Wondering how to begin.
Lost between tomorrow and yesterday,
        C G
Between now and then.
D
And now we're back where we started,
Here we go round again.
Day after day I get up and I say
          C (hold)
I better do it again.
A A-D G-G-G-A
A A-D G-G-G-A

A A-D G-G-G-A
Where are all the people going?
A A-D G-G-G-A
Round and round till we reach the end.
A A-D G-G-G-A
One day leading to another,
A A-D G-G-G-A
Get up, go out, do it again.
         D C G
Then it's back where you started,
D C G
Here we go round again.
D C G
Back where you started,
         C G
Come on do it again.

Note: Dave's lead is played over the chorus...D C G G, etc. ending with

 D D/C D/B Bb

riff: repeat this phrase, which basically alternates between the chords of
A and D.

 A CA D C A A C A D C (repeat)

          A A-D G-G-G-A
And you think today is going to be better,
A A-D G-G-G-A
Change the world and do it again.
A A-D G-G-G-A
Give it all up and start all over,
A A-D G-G-G-A
You say you will but you don't know when.
          D C G
Then it's back where you started,
D C G
Here we go round again.
D C G
Day after day I get up and I say
         C G
Come on do it again.

Dave's lead, then the riff

Note: play the part below just like above, except when you get to the line
"But it's superficial..." Then you should pick the triad of the 4 chords A
D G A over and over. This means for A to play A, C#, E...etc.

The days go by and you wish you were a different guy,
Different friends and a new set of clothes.
You make alterations and affect a new pose,
A new house, a new car, a new job, a new nose.
But it's superficial and it's only skin deep,
Because the voices in your head keep shouting in your sleep.
Get back, get back.
D (strum it like at the beginning, adding pinky and releasing)
Back where you started, here we go round again,
D C G
Back where you started, come on do it again.
 D C G D C G
Back where you started, here we go round again,
D C G C G
Day after day I get up and I say, do it again.
Bb D D/C D/B Bb
Do it again.
D C (hold)
Day after day I get up and I say, come on do it again.

It's Dmaj Pent, but with some weird slidey-type thing going on. The
second part of the figure, the fast part is just hammers /pull offs
on the B and E at the 10th and 12th frets.

1.12. Scattered

Scattered/R. Davies

G C

           G C
1. Like a seed that is sewn
        G C
All the children are scattered
     G C
By a breeze that is blown
        G C
Now the crops are all scattered
       G D
We are torn, we are shattered
    G C
Now some of us are barmy and battered
        G D
And the fields where we gathered
    G C
Are overgrown in weeds and in tatters
           G D
Through it all we were scattered

           G C
2. To the fields we are scattered
         G C
From the day we are born
        G C
To grow wild and sleep rough
              G C
Till from the earth we are torn
      G D
And a soul that is free
    G C
Can live on eternally
        G D
And the spirit can live on
            G C
Though it's scattered in the world beyond
              G
And I've been out of my mind
     D
Ever since she's been gone

Eb Bb F
I look around that empty room
             D Eb
No sight nor sound, she left so soon,
             Bb F
She's out of view, but then I found
                 D
Those scattered clues she left behind

Eb
A photograph with a smiling face
 Bb
A cigarette stubbed out on the fireplace
 F
A coffee cup with her lipstick stains
D
I guess I'll never see her again

           G C
3. Now my life is all scattered
      G C
Ever since she's been gone
       G C
I feel older, I feel fatter
           G C
I feel the blues coming on
       G
We get bruised
       D
We get battered
          G C
But we'll pick up the pieces that scattered
          G
And with emotional glue
            D
We're gonna stick together, body and mind

 Eb
Ever since she went away
Bb
I've been alone to contemplate
F
Time and space and why world's move
D
While sitting in my solitude
Eb
I've watched the stars and wondered why
Bb
They're scattered up there in the sky
F
And is she up there out of view
D
On some higher platitude
Eb Bb
I wish I knew
             F
Wish I could prove
The reason why this life on earth
D
Is scattered like the universe
Eb
Do-do, do-do, do-do, do-do-do
Bb
Do-do, do-do, do-do
F
I'm scattered here and scattered there
D
Bits of me scattered everywhere
       G C
To the fields we are scattered
              G C
Then from the dust we are born
      G C
We survive somewhat battered
         G C
To a new life, a new dawn
       G D
In the end what will it matter
         G C
There'll only be my ashes to scatter
            G
And all the logical answers
     D
To a worrying mind
        G C
Will be scattered in time
G C
Beaten and battered
       G D
To the earth you are scattered
       G C
You're going home so what does it matter
      G
To an atomic mind
D Eb
Scattered here while you travel time
               G
Ah, ah, ah, ah

Also, Waterloo Sunset is off, but I don't know the names of the chords
that are right. It is one of those songs that is really so nicely put
together, that I wish I knew what the chord names were so I could tell them.
Still, what is on the page is very nice too, although the song is in E, not D.
D is easier to play though, and that makes it fine for me. My God--in so many
ways is Waterloo Sunset fine.

Subject: chord changes for Waterloo Sunset

I have been strumming away at this song, which IS in the key of E, not D.
Still, this is the easiest key, so you should put a capo on the 2nd fret,
and play it like this.

Thanks for the chords. I have made a few changes...The following lines
should emphasize the descending notes from E, Eb, D, and C#, while the bass
should also climb from E to A, like this: E, F#, G, A..........

          Em B7 Em7 A
But i don't need no friends

The "Sha La La" part must be changed: do NOT play a B chord, please!

                 D A G G D(F# bass) E
As long as i gaze on Waterloo Sunset, i am in paradise

Here, there is a missing D chord, played twice hard, before the second "Sha
La La"

   E7(descending bass line: E,D,C#,B) A D G D(F# bass) E
Every day i look at the world from my window
   E7 (descending bass again) A7 (descending bass line: A, G, F#, E...)
chilly-chilly is the evening time, Waterloo sunset's fine.

That last part is also the intro....Hope this helps!!!

the song is in E, with NO capo.
the intro is a steadily strummed B7 fretted low to high like this: X
2 1 2 0 2 with
the lead going over it.
    the verse chords are E, B7(X 2 4 2 4 2), and A.
the "and i don't need..." part has a screwy chord sequence like
this:
    F#m(2 4 4 2 2 2), F#m something (2 4 3 2 2 4), F#m7 (2 4 2 2 2 2),
and the above
B7. then back to verse chords.
the "sha la la" is A(X 0 2 2 2 0), then the bass line with your
pinky on the fourth fret
of the low E, F# (major this time, strummed all the way through to
"my"), and on "window" go back to the B7 (X 2 4 2 4 2). then two quick
strums on E and repeat from the "sha la la", winding back up at the
intro of the song, which is also the ending.
thanks for taking the time to read this, and i hope my layout isn't
too confusing.

I've been struggling with Waterloo Sunset for several years now. I
feel most comfortable with the version which Franz Lemmermeyer has
presented. I believe that the "And I don't need no friends" bit should
be corrected to the following:

  and I don't(Emajor)-(Bmajor)...need no friends(Gmajor)-(Amajor) as
long as I gaze etc.

Part of the problem with trying to figure this song out is that the
record is not "pitched" to a proper tuning. Its impossible to play along
with it unless your guitar is somewhat sharp or flat.
I believe that Ray Davies played the song with the capo on the second
fret when he did the live program for the television.

Hope this helps,

John Maxwell

First of all, I have to give my guitar teacher, Troy, credit for this as he
taught it to me and figured out the leads.

Throughout the song, Ray has a capo on the second fret and is playing the
following chord pattern:
Chords are relative to capo
Intro: 4 bars of A

Verses: ||: D . . . | A/C# . . . | G/B . . . |   %     :|| Em . . . | Em+7 .
. . | Em7 . . . |

Chorus: | A . . . | D . . . | A/C# . . . | G/B . . . | G/B . G G/F# | Em . .
. | % | A . . . | D . G G/F# | Em . . . | % | repeat four bars of
A from intro

For the fuzzy electric guitar (plus bass), play this (no capo, slightly
muted):
Intro: | B . B/A . | B/G# . B/F# . | B/E . B/D# . | B/C# . B . |

Verses: ||: E . . . | B/D# . . . | A/C# . . . |  %      :|| F#m . . . |
F#m+7 . . . | F#m7 . . . |

Chorus: | B . . . | E . . . | B/D# . . . | A/C# . . . | A/C# . A A/G# | F#m
. F#m/E . | F#m/D# . F#m/C# . | B . B/F# . | E . A A/G# | F#m . F#m/E . |
F#m/D# . F#m/C# . | repeat intro chords

I know that's awfully convoluted, but I don't know how to do it any better
than that.
Here are the leads:

This one comes at the beginning and at the end. Basically, it's just the
melody.
e|----------------------------------------------------------------|
B|----------5-----------------------------------------------------|
G|----4s6s4---s6-4--------4---------------------------------------|
D|-----------------4-s6s4---4s6-4--------s6-4-2-------------------|
A|--------------------------------2-s4s2--------4-----------------|
E|----------------------------------------------------------------|
When Dave plays this at the end, though, some of the slides become
hammer-ons.

Now, here's the very subversive, hard-to-hear lead throughout the song. It
is played in several variations, but here's how it appears the first time:
e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|----------5----------------------------------------------------------5-----------|
G|----2-4s6---6s4-2----------4---------------4-------------------2-4s6---6s4-2-----|
D|---------------------2-4s6---6s4-2-2-2-4s6---6s4-1-1-1-2-4-2---------------------|
A|------------------s5-----------------------------------------4-------------------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------------|

Date: Nov. 12, 1999 4:07 PM
From: Scott A. Smith

I play the song in E without a capo, similar to how David Poole describes it,
but when I reach the screwy chord sequence, I play it.

        F#m Faug A B E
But I don't need no friends/ As long as I gaze on. . . .

Try it out.

I've just been looking at the chords for the above on the Kinks

listening to the single and trying to match on my Fender! Maybe
some of the B chords could be B7's other wise it seems ok. Let

Waterloo sunsets fine (Waterloo sunsets fine)

Terry meets julie, waterloo station
Every friday night
But I am so lazy, dont want to wander
I stay at home at night
But I dont feel afraid
As long as I gaze on waterloo sunset
I am in paradise

Every day I look at the world from my window
But chilly, chilly is the evening time
Waterloo sunsets fine

Millions of people swarming like flies round waterloo underground
But terry and julie cross over the river
Where they feel safe and sound
And the dont need no friends
As long as they gaze on waterloo sunset
They are in paradise

BII
Waterloo sunsets fine..repeat until fadeout

*Ocassionally he switches to asus2
**he Could possibly be just playing a plain G# major, but its not all that noticable
since its played so quickly
